Background

This website is based on work done while racing and running a very small, motocross-focused shop between 1975 and 1979 in the Muscatine, IA area (albeit with a different name). During that time period, I raced in AMA District 22 (Iowa), plus Milville, MN, Rhinelander, WI, Princeton, IL and St. Peters, MO.

I raced a Maico 250 in 1975 and 1976, and a Suzuki RM125B in 1977 and 10 races in 1978 - amateur only - before college took over all my free time and mental cycles. By late 1977, I came to the conclusion that I enjoyed working on the bikes a lot more than I did racing.

In 1978 and 1979, I also had the opportunity to work as a mechanic for a local rider who was pursing AMA pro motocross on a limited basis, which was a great deal of fun, even if we were not the most successful. I also had the opportunity to work as a mechanic on a limited basis with several local, gifted amateur riders. Being in college at that time allowed me to have access to both a complete machine shop (no CNC equipment though) and a motorcycle dyno.

Thirty years later, I've decided it might be fun to resurrect some of that body of work and share it. We designed and manufactured a few parts of our own, and actually raced them during the period. One of the parts actually got used in AMA pro motocross racing in 1979. I also hope to get around to putting together a set of pages describing my RM125B as it evolved from a stock bike to a 'Pat Ritchter Replica' at the end of the 1978 racing season (and which I still own at the time of this writing).
